Heavy Snowfall In Jammu & Kashmir: The Gurez Sector Of Bandipura Faces Blockage Due To Avalanche
The Gurez sector of Bandipora was one of the regions of Jammu & Kashmir which had to face difficulty in transportation due to the avalanche that occurred in the area.
The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been covered with snow as the entire region witnessed heavy snowfall. The snowfall reportedly began on Friday night in several parts of Kashmir and just after midnight, even Srinagar was covered in a white blanket. The Gurez sector of Bandipora was one of the regions that had to face difficulty in transportation due to the avalanche that occurred in the area. The government officials have already begun clearing the snow from the roads that had been blocked due to snowfall.
On the other hand, tourists in Srinagar are smiling with glee post witnessing nature’s beauty after a snowfall. Meanwhile, even the roads of Shimla have been facing blockage due to the snow. While at some places about three inches of snow were seen being accumulated, in several other parts the number reached 12 to 24 inches. Amidst this, rainfall also resulted in landslides at the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other regions which led to the closure of roads that connect the valley to the rest of the country.
An official of the Met department said on Friday, “As expected, light to moderate snowfall occurred in plains of the Valley during the night while heavy snowfall occurred in the higher reaches of J&K and Ladakh. There would be an improvement in the overall weather condition from today onwards. No major snowfall is expected till December 20, during which the weather is expected to remain mainly dry.”
National highways of the state and the inter-district roads are being cleared by the administration. A representative of the official previously said, “snow clearance is being done since 3 am, we were already ready for the wet spell as was predicted by the meteorology department, we have kept snow clearing machine already in every district, and all deputy commissioner are monitoring the situation very closely. Adequate stock of essential commodities is well-stored inning Gas, kerosene oil”, he added.
