Four matches, four draws. Two Groups \u2014 G and H \u2014 left completely level after the opening round of fixtures. The tournament&#8217;s second week has been turned entirely on its head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spain had 27 shots. Belgium needed just 22 seconds from Romelu Lukaku&#8217;s introduction to level. New Zealand&#8217;s Elijah Just scored twice. Saudi Arabia&#8217;s goalkeeper Mohammad Al Owais made the saves of the night. Zero wins for the favourites. Cape Verde, making their first-ever appearance at the FIFA World Cup 2026\u2122, arrived expecting to survive. Goalkeeper Josimar \u00c9vora Dias \u2014 known as Vozinha \u2014 had other ideas entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spain&#8217;s 27 attempts produced seven on target. Vozinha saved all seven. Oyarzabal was denied twice in the first half. Laporte&#8217;s header was pushed away. Ferran Torres, Spain&#8217;s clearest opportunity, rattled the crossbar. In the 88th minute, Pico Lopes threw himself across the goal line to block another Oyarzabal volley. Deep into stoppage time, Pedri received a yellow card for a tactical foul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cape Verde became just the seventh team in World Cup history to avoid defeat on their tournament debut.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Belgium_1%E2%80%931_Egypt_Group_G\"><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zee5.com\/sports\/football\/fifa-world-cup\/2026\/0-6-4z5974253\/0-2-5z5974716\/teams\/belgium\/belgium-squad\">Belgium<\/a> 1\u20131 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zee5.com\/sports\/football\/fifa-world-cup\/2026\/0-6-4z5974253\/0-2-5z5974716\/teams\/egypt\/egypt-squad\">Egypt<\/a> | Group G<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Egypt scored first. Emam Ashour finished calmly in the 20th minute, giving the Pharaohs a lead they protected well through a first half in which Belgium never found their rhythm. Belgium&#8217;s technical quality was visible in bursts \u2014 but Egypt&#8217;s defensive shape was disciplined and well-organised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The equaliser arrived at the 66th minute. Mohamed Hany turned the ball into his own net under pressure from the attack Lukaku instantly sparked. One moment of presence. One own goal. It was a deserved lead, built on defensive organisation and dangerous transitions that troubled Uruguay throughout the first hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uruguay&#8217;s equaliser came from Maximiliano Ara\u00fajo late in the match \u2014 a composed finish that rescued a point Marcelo Bielsa&#8217;s side will have felt they deserved given their quality on the ball. Goalkeeper Mohammad Al Owais was outstanding for Saudi Arabia, making a series of stops that kept them level before the late drama. Then Mohammad Mohebbi arrived with the answer: heading in Rezaeian&#8217;s precise cross on the 64th minute to make it 2\u20132, and the match finished level. Iran frustrated not to have won.
