Norway 2–1 Ivory Coast — Haaland’s 60th Sends Les Éléphants Home

It started with a Nusa wonder goal. It ended with a Haaland milestone. And somewhere in between, Amad Diallo gave Ivory Coast fans a moment to believe.

Antonio Nusa broke the deadlock in the 39th minute with a curling right-footed finish that would have been a contender for goal of the tournament on any other night. Ivory Coast, in unfamiliar territory as the team chasing the game, hit back through Amad Diallo in the 74th minute — the substitute combining brilliantly with Pépé before rolling a clinical left-foot finish into the corner.

Norway answered immediately. Oscar Bobb drove down the right, Patrick Berg laid it off, and Erling Haaland swept it home with his left foot — his 60th international goal. Clinical. Inevitable. Goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland then denied Diallo’s stoppage-time free-kick with a full-stretch save to seal it. Norway 2–1. Norway advancedadvance to face Brazil in the Round of 16.

France 3–0 Sweden — Mbappé Brace Ties Messi at the Top

France were not at their sharpest in the first half — two woodwork strikes, an offside goal, and 74% possession that produced just one goal. That goal, however, was Mbappé at his best: a corner routine, three defenders dribbled past inside the box, a curling strike into the top corner in the 45th minute.

The second half was ruthless. Barcola made it two in the 53rd minute after Olise’s through-ball split Victor Lindelöf’s legs. Mbappé completed his brace in the 74th — a backheel to Olise, a perfectly timed overlapping run, a calm finish around the keeper. France 3–0. Six tournament goals for Mbappé. He is now level with Lionel Messi at the top of the Golden Boot race.

France play Paraguay in the Round of 16 at the Philadelphia Stadium, on July 5 at 2:30 AM IST.

Mexico 2–0 Ecuador — The Azteca Roars, and the Prestianni Law Makes Headlines

The night began with a one-hour delay — torrential rain and lightning forcing both teams to wait in the tunnel. When play finally started, Mexico were electrifying. Julián Quiñones opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, Raúl Jiménez curled in a second nine minutes later, and the Estadio Azteca was in full voice.

Ecuador‘s Hernán Galíndez made a spectacular 67th-minute save to deny César Montes a third. Then came the moment that will be talked about beyond footballbeyond the football. In the 90th minute, defender Piero Hincapié covered his mouth during a confrontation — a gesture that triggered a VAR review under FIFA’s new anti-discrimination protocol, the Prestianni Law. Straight red card. Ecuador finished with ten men. Mexico finished by advancing to the Round of 16 at the Azteca.

The Numbers That Matter Today

Mbappé: 6 tournament goals. The Golden Boot race is now a two-horse contest. Haaland’s 60th international goal confirmed him as Norway’s all-time leading scorer. And Mexico won a knockout match in a World Cup after 40 years. They conceded 0 goals in their 4 matches. The home advantage is real, and the crowd knows it.
