Rajasthan CM: Can’t Compare Baran Rape With Hathras Incident
In a tweet, Ashok Gehlot said that the girls went with the accused on their own, as he called out the opposition for comparing the incident with the gruesome Hathras rape.
After the Hathras and Balrampur gangrapes in Uttar Pradesh, two minor girls from Rajasthan’s Baran district were allegedly raped by a group of boys. They went missing on September 19 and were found on 22 September in Kota. There seems to be a growing trend of politicising a sensitive matter like rape as leaders of different parties are embroiled in defending their states.
In a tweet in Hindi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot called out a section of the opposition and media for comparing the Baran incident to the Hathras rape. He said that the investigations were done as soon as the matter was reported. Gehlot also clarified that the girls went with the boys on their own accord, as per their police statement. He further said that the accused may be minors and the case will be probed further.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has meanwhile claimed that the state police is forcing the victims to change their statement and blamed the Gehlot government for allowing the authorities to suppress the case.
