Actor and environmentalist Leonardo Dicaprio takes a walk through the Peruvian Amazon for a cause

One of the most active celebrities in the climate change movement, actor, film producer, and environmentalist Leonardo Dicaprio once again was seen out and about in the wilderness. This time around the Titanic actor was seen making his way through the Peruvian Amazon for a cause, as usual.

Taking to Instagram, the Blood Diamond actor posted a picture of him with his back facing the camera and him marching forward. The whole purpose of the post was to disseminate information on the degrading jungles and environment at the Peruvian Amazon that is causing pollution and illegal digging of natural resources.

“The construction of illegal roads by a logging company in the Peruvian Amazon is causing pollution of the land and the illegal plundering of natural resources, and opening up this part of the Amazon to additional invasion, threatening the homes, livelihoods, cultures and lives of the Sawawo and Aconadysh Indigenous peoples. Join me, @rewild and @propurus in calling on the government of Peru—specifically the state of Ucayali—to stop the construction of these roads in the province of Yurua and ensure the safety of the Indigenous communities that live here and safeguard this special place, critical to a healthy planet,” he wrote this caption along with the picture.

The actor’s thrust with the environment started in 1998 when he established the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which is a non-profit organization devoted to promoting environmental awareness. The main focus of the non-profit is on global warming, preserving Earth’s biodiversity, and supporting renewable energy. Though it does concern itself with other areas of the environment, so far it has worked on projects in over 40 countries and has produced two short web documentaries, Water Planet and Global Warming.

In fact, in November 2010, DiCaprio donated $1 million to the Wildlife Conservation Society at Russia’s Tiger Summit.
